Best Brunch

They say Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  I’m not exactly sure who “they” is, but you can’t go wrong starting your day any of these places!

The Gulch

My absolute favorite spot for weekend Brunch is Adele’s.  Located on McGavock street, this is a short Uber ride from downtown or from 12 South.  What you need to know before you go:  it’s served buffet style.  That means the menu rotates, but please don’t leave without trying the chef’s hero dish:  JW Chicken.  I highly recommend a glass of Prosecco to wash it all down!

For weekday breakfasts, you can’t go wrong with Milk and Honey.  They don’t take reservations, but there is plenty of window shopping to be done along 11th Ave South while you wait for a table.  The biscuits are out of this world!   Whether you enjoy them with honey or gravy is up to you!  In the warmer months, sitting outside on the patio is a great way to people watch.

12 South

Just when I think it can’t get any better, this neighborhood keeps surprising me with newer, better additions.

For a sweet treat, opt for Five Daughters Bakery, located just off 12 South on Caruthers Ave.  Their original 100 layer doughnuts, which actually more closely resemble French pastry than a traditional Krispy Kreme, do not disappoint.  Flavors vary, but maple remains a staple for me.

For a hearty breakfast, The Butter Milk Ranch offers all of the traditional fare.  Start with an order of Biscuits and Gravy for the table.  (It is as good as what my grandmother used to make!).  I’m a huge fan of Eggs Benedict, so I am always drawn to their “Benny Collection,” but friends enjoy the blueberry pancakes and gruyere and chive omelet.

For an experience, try brand new offering The Henry.   With locations in Phoenix, LA, and Miami, Nashville is their latest opening.  On my first trip, I opted for the Avocado toast, while my ride or die went with the Smoked Salmon Bagel.  Equally impressed by the restaurant and the wait staff as we were by our food, we will be returning soon to try the next thing on the menu!

Where the Locals Go

Loveless Cafe has been serving up their famous biscuits and friend chicken since 1951.  Located practically at the intersection of Highway 100 and the Natchez Trace, you can find all the hearty country breakfast fixings you desire on their menu, all day long.  I highly recommend the jams:   strawberry, peach, and blackberry.  Don’t forget to head across the parking lot to pick up some biscuit mix and jam to go!

The Roze Pony is located in Belle Meade, and while it is a fairly new addition, it has quickly become a popular one.  Reservations are highly recommended, as seating is tight, but once you are in, be prepared to be wowed with their dishes.  If you have time, I highly recommend their soufflé pancakes.  If you don’t, my go to is the Overnight Oats, but my best friends almost always opt for the Chicken Salad Toast and the Brekkie Bowl.   Should your preferences lean toward the less adventurous, there is a traditional Bacon, Eggs, and Toast option.
